Diabetes self-management skills and nutrition education
MercyOne is pleased to offer a wide range of educational services for both diabetes and nutritional management. Our program is certified by the American Diabetes Association and the Iowa Department of Public Health. Our team will work with you to design a plan to give you the support you need after your diagnosis.
Diabetic education can help:
- Improve your blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and A1C through a personalized, healthy meal and exercise plan.
- Monitor your glucose and medications.
- Problem solving, healthy coping and risk reduction.
- Address complications if they arise.
- Offer assistance through our monthly support group for you and your family.
Frequently asked questions:
- Do I need a physician referral?
- Yes – we require a referral from your primary care provider as do most insurance plans.
- Is there a charge for the program?
- Yes – group and individual sessions have a charge, however most insurance programs cover self-management training and nutritional counseling. The monthly support group is free of charge.
- Can I bring someone with me?
- Yes – we recommend asking a family member or friend to attend with you.
