Biography

Dr. Joe Cookman's career has taken him many places but, in the end, there's no place like home. And "home" is northern Iowa.

Dr. Cookman entered the army after medical school, serving an internship and residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, TX, and completing his cardiology training at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Aurora, CO. He was promoted to major in 1982, and left the service in 1986.

Dr. Cookman then began practicing cardiology in Grand Forks, ND, and later returned to Mason City before joining Iowa Heart Center in 1998. He is board certified in cardiology and interventional cardiology.
